Postway Mews, Ilford

Redbridge Council have granted planning permission for our design of a triplex apartment in the centre of Ilford. Our clients own the building which fronts on to the High Street, with a single storey projecting on to a narrow mews. Given the constrained nature of the site we conceived of a design that employs brick screens to offer privacy and at the same time, to direct views obliquely towards the end of the street.
The massing principles were tested at pre-application stage but were not well received. However, our interpretation of the council’s advice led us to this innovative screened approach which turned the opinion of the council to support the scheme and approve it within the 8-week application period.
This is our second recent success in the same stretch of the High Road. On both projects we worked together with planning consultants, Collective Planning.
